Anti-War Bulletin from Norwich

To: Retort
From: PO

Peter Offord sends us this bulletin:

Today, around 40 people stood in silent vigil outside the Forum in the centre of Norwich, to call for an end to the siege of Gaza and an end to the cycle of violence and killing in the Occupied Territories and elsewhere.

Hassan Juma’a Awad Al-Asadi, President of the Iraqi Federation of Oil Unions, speaking in Norwich last Sunday 2nd March, at a gathering organised by the Norwich Stop the War Coalition, said: “We want to bring an end to the five years of occupation and ask you to demonstrate in London as it will do us a great service, and then one day, hopefully, we’ll meet in Basra after the foreign mercenaries have left.”

The "WORLD AGAINST WAR" demonstration on Saturday 15th March, organised by the Stop the War Coalition and the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, will assemble at 12 noon in Trafalgar Square, London.

Tony Benn, President of the Stop the War Coalition, writes: “The destruction of Iraq continues; its people killed amidst bombings and atrocities, a million or more dead, more than two million driven from their homes, the social and economic infrastructure shattered. In Afghanistan the US military is spending $65,000 a minute and there are four times as many air strikes than in Iraq. The occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan have resulted in untold suffering for the people of these countries. Yet British troops remain in both countries. The International Peace Conference we organised in London in December agreed to hold anti-war demonstrations across the world in March 2008. The UK demonstration takes place in London on 15 March. I hope you will join me there.”

As you know, there will be demonstrations from Washington to Beirut, from Sydney to San Francisco to Seoul.
